Common Application Instructions
A list of common app schools can be found here:
Common Application School List
Because MFHS is contracted with Naviance and Family Connections, the Common Application web site will NOT allow you to complete your application through their site. You MUST process your application through your Family Connections account.
: If you are applying to a school that uses the "Common Application" AND allows you to choose if you apply through the Common Application or directly through the university, you must indicate your method of application in your Family Connections account.
On your "Colleges I'm Applying To" page, you will see a column entitled "Applying Via Common App?" In that column, you'll see the word "unknown" next to selected schools. Click on "unknown" and use the drop down menu to indicate your method of application.
You MUST change "Unknown" to "NO" if you do not want to register with Common App. This excludes you from the FERPA waiver process and allows the materials to be sent immediately. If you ARE using Common Application, then the "Unknown" must be changed to "Yes." You then MUST complete the FERPA waiver in the blue box at the top of the page. Again, be very careful to enter your Common App username and password exactly as you entered it on the Common App site.
Please see your counselor with any questions.
